2014 Toyota Prius Overview

The economical and affordable midsize Prius four-door hatchback continues to reign as the top selling hybrid gas/electric-powered car in the U.S. The Prius can run via an electric motor with self-charging battery pack, a 1.8-liter gas engine or a combination of the two to deliver stellar fuel economy with adequate acceleration. It drives much like a “normal” car, with ride and handling qualities that are about average. The interior is roomy front and rear for four passengers, but is plagued by some cheap-feeling plastics, and the car’s odd split hatchback window hampers rearward visibility. Many high-tech features are either standard or optional. A plug-in version that can run for longer periods solely on battery power is also offered, as are the wagon-like Prius v, and subcompact Prius c models.
